Building a Resume That Recruiters Can Scan in 30 Seconds

Recruiters review many resumes quickly. Structure, clarity and evidence matter more than design.

Most resumes are first read quickly. A clear structure helps the reader find what matters.

Lead with a short summary

Two or three lines: the role you want, your strongest skills and what you have built.

Show evidence, not adjectives

Replace “hardworking team player” with what you did: “Built a library management app in PHP and MySQL used by 40 classmates.”

Keep formatting simple

Use a single column, consistent headings and a standard font. Many applicant tracking systems read simple layouts more reliably.

Tailor it to the role

Move the most relevant skills and projects to the top for each application.
